War of the Worlds (2005)

What is the first thing that comes into your head when someone says Sci-Fi? Most will say Aliens. They are the extra-terrestrial creatures that lurk the vast world of space and are iconic in many Sci-fi films. Some of them play on the Alien comes to earth and wreaks havoc cliche and War of the Worlds is one example that may send shivers down your spine.

Where to start with this movie? First of all, the plot is generally ok and watchable. The story is quite interesting but is not really the best thing in this movie. Next, they must have had a pretty high budget for this movie as the effects are quite good and the alien scenes can be quite chilling. The characters are good, do have a bit of variety in the personalities and overall are played well. With all that in mind this movie was pretty enjoyable to watch and should give it a night if you have some time on your hands for a good sci-fi film.

There are some improvements that could be done in this film. Like I said, the plot was ok but could add a hint of other emotion in it as the movie has the emotion of a negative-scale until the end. The characters have no happiness in them, even when they are safe which kind of brings the movie to a depressing mood the whole way through. The ending is the only real turn of emotion and even that does not really feel climatic. Another thing to add on with the characters: one of them called Rachel does not really have much purpose in the film. She does not help at all and all she does is scream. It is kind of annoying.

This movie is one that I would maybe recommend to ages 12 and up as the themes may be disturbing for those of the younger age. You should give this film a watch if you like the theme of aliens, sci-fi films and want to watch one that is on the bone-chilling side.
