Rain Man is a movie based around two brothers Charlie Babbitt (Tom Cruise) and his brother Raymond Babbitt (Dustin Hoffman). Throughout his life Charlie Babbitt has never known he had a brother and when his father dies that he cares little of in the will he expects all of his father possessions to go to him. But from a strange occurrence nearly all his possessions are given to an unknown character this creates anger in Charlie and he sets out to try and find the mysterious character. Events unfold and the future holds many strange things that Charlie never thought he would have. The performance by Tom Cruise as the full of himself, anger induced younger brother who try's to keep his cool while also babysitting at the start of the film to the end of the film where you see a calmer, more positive character and spending time with someone he didn't even know existed. But the performance of Dustin Hoffman shows in this movie playing the older brother to Tom Cruise as a autistic savant. He brings a realistic look on what people with this type of disability have for example when asked questions they would give the same answer over and over again be if it was right or wrong. It is a very well done performance and just like Tom Cruise's character at the start Dustin Hoffman's character is very shy at the start of the movie but also being very curious, and towards the end of the movie he is calmer and more relatable. These two give all round great performances that work very well together as they are so different at the start but become closer as the movie go ons it makes you feel like this is a true bond that really brings this movie to life.
Print this reviewTom Hanks won his second Oscar for this performance as a kind-hearted man-child who lives an amazingly eventful life in post-war America.
