Crimson Peak (2015)

Crimson Peak is a film about a writer who falls in love and moves in with Tom Hiddleston's character at the his house which is run down and is falling apart but after staying there a few nights and some scares she starts to think that everything isn't as it seems. Crimson peak is added to the collection of Del Toro's visually amazing and beautiful movies that should be watched just because of the directing style but I wish the writing, story and the characters were as good as the directing. The movie features a main character that goes through the weirdest series of events but by the end hasn't changed, can't be invested in because she is very bland and boring or has gone through any character arc or development. Along with the main character all the characters are the blandest people that just are really uninteresting excluding Jessica Chastain''s character who is really entertaining and interesting. The story could be great and scary but can't decide whether its a ghost story or a drama standing next to Wuthering heights, in the first act it is a drama about family and money but when we get to Crimson Peak the movie features a ghost and teases a horrifying conclusion but instead has an ending that has nothing to do with the ghost. If you cut out all the ghost elements it wouldn't affect the main story that much and feels it is just there to pull in another movie audience for more money at the box office. Crimson Peak is beautifully shot and the sets pull you into another time period but the story lacks any substance and can't decide what it wants to be its not the worst movie of all time and isn't forgettable. I would recommend this movie just because of the visuals and nothing else it is definitely worth one watch because of this, but because of the characters and story I would be beware of Crimson Peak.
