Mickybo And Me (2004)

In all honesty, when I first heard we were watching this 2004-film, I was as less enthusiastic about it than I would be enthusiastic to pick up litter in the streets with my teeth. Boy, was I in for a surprise. 'Mickybo and Me' is more than just a film about two boys becoming friends from opposing sides. This is set in Northern Ireland 1970s during 'The Troubles' where the beatings, blasting and bombings that you see on the screen aren't exaggerated scenes to make the film more dramatic, but instead those things were real life tragic situations that was common with the people who lived those awful years. They had a childhood filled with discrimination, inequality, separation, hatred, resentment and suffering. Through this film, it felt as if I had just been through all of those things. This short film had taken me aback and had left me lost with words as to what to describe everything that I had seen. All I can say is that it had brought me to be further fascinated by the history of Northern Ireland - Belfast in particular. I have grown very fond of this city that I live in and have a new respect for the people of Belfast. Discrimination, injustice, separation, betrayal, the limits of friendship, hardships... If these words fit the type of film you are interested in, then this is the film for you!
