Admittedly I was hesitant about seeing this film, and I think that hesitation was a bit worth it!
Hey Guys its Arrow, and this movie left me slightly conflicted about live action classics. This is Pan.
When the trailers for this movie first started showing I was really looking forward to the film, but then it started to get promoted a bit too much that I started to get hesitant. Let’s start off with some of the good stuff. The lead actor was really quite charming, and held his own quite well in a film that had him in more or less all of its scenes. This combined with the fact he did have some good people to work with and they seemingly did help him bring everything he could to the roll. I also thought that our good friend Hugh Jackman did well, and while I am not too sure about what happened to him in the movie (More on that later) he certainly boosted up the film on my scale. The two brief songs in which the cast were singing were a bit dull to a short extent, but overall they were very fun to listen to. There were also a fair few easter eggs through the film. A couple were Pan’s Dagger, The Tick Tock said by peter and Hooks explosive, and that the only named fairy besides *Sighs heavily* ‘The Fairy Prince’ is Tinkabell.
On to the more negative side. The Story, while good in places, was all over the place and not really making any sense. The story also had elements of some cheap plot devices, but not really showing any variety. Next point is the fairy dust. Now we all knew deep down that this would have an involvement in the plot, but what we got was nothing that was really that creative. In the old classic cartoon films, fairy dust made you fly, in this it appears to just make you forever young… and I wouldn’t have minded and not just been crammed in and never spoken about it again. Sadly though, that was never the case as we never did hear about it again. Also we never really understood the villain’s motives for the fairy dust besides this, and nor do you feel like he is ever really as evil as a childhood villain normally is. There was no motive behind Blackbeard, he was more of someone that was written like “We have a hero, Blackbeard is our villain and nothing will be explained until the sequel!” and that sequel was planned before the release of this film. The final climax was disappointing because it was obvious that the heroes would win, but more because Peter Pan never really does anything accept fall over. This was not just in this fight sequence either, but more or less throughout the whole film.
Overall the whole thing was just above average, scoring a 7/10 on my scale. The plot was boring and fit for a trash compactor, there was nothing new that was really offered, and parts of the plot were just crammed in. I did expect more, but only after I noticed that one of the writers of Arrow and The Flash had been one of the producers on this film. The whole thing was just a disappointment. I find it to be worth watching and is still enjoyable if you can forget what you have read this review. I don’t recommend getting it on DVD or Blu Ray, but if you find it to be on TV one day or for your kids to see, it can be worth a watch.
I genuinely am hoping that the sequel is better and that we maybe see a better story specifically.
Thanks for Reading Guys and peace out.
