The VILLAGE The village is a spine-tingling thriller directed by the world renowned M. Night Shyamalan who has created another maleficent yet intriguing movie that will leave you on the edge of your seat! Or at least that is what you are lead to believe. But in truth the only scary thing about it is how bad it is. The movie is as confusing as trying to spell M. Night Shyamalan’s name. Whether it is switching between main protagonist to main protagonist. First you are lead to believe it is the condesending Edward Walker who somehow allways there just to give a bit more information that no one really needed to know to Lucius Hunt who is as paler than a ghost and as bland as gruel to Ivy Green Walker (who is very dextrous considering she is blind) but I guess that is the problem with introducing too many characters that won’t even factor in to the story. But the main plot is the most annoying thing as the town is supposed to be surrounded by an ominous forest and outside is another town that they have kept peace with. Who are they? No one knows. What do they do that is so terrible? No one knows or seems to care to be honest. But suddenly animals keep popping up skinned and dead but for some reason one woman keeps saying it must be a coyote even after it has been established that it is definitely not a COYOTE! And Shocker it is the other town dun dun dun! Sorry coyote lady. The scene repeatedly switches between night and day while the plot does not progress. Later on Lucius and Ivy (who can run a mile and not fall or even get a scratch. I doubt anyone is that lucky). But one man who is mentally disabled is overwhelmed with jealousy and really needs someone to look after him stabs Lucius. In the end you realise that you have been conned out of £5 as you are not frightened but spend the whole movie ignoring the plot, characters and appalling “chemistry” between Ivy and Lucius just praying for a good scare but nope. In Hein site I guess I should have known that it was going to be a dramatical fail considering M. Night Shyamalan's track record with horror movies (which is bad for those who have not seen any of his movies). Overall the movie could not even live up to its standards which were not high in the first place.
