The Blair Witch Project is a cult horror film, created in 1999. It was a small-scale horror, but with a big scale thriller factor.
The film follows three film students, hoping to make a documentary on the fabled witch of Blair County, however things quickly turn sour for the budding film crew as they are faced by horrors no man should ever have to bear.
Personally the Blair Witch is one of my favourite all time films, and without a doubt my favourite horror film. The reason for this is its phenomenal filming technique, before The Blair Witch there had been no found footage film of this scale; it took the horror genre and reinvented it. What also makes this film incredible is its ability to scare audiences without the use of cheap jump scares that make up most modern horror films, it scares with the element of suspense and the use of clever story telling techniques, having the story relate to things the audience earlier learnt. The film also features no Non-diegetic sound, another incredible technique, that this film pulls off brilliantly, adding even more to the films truly chilling scenes.
All together I'd give this film a 5 out of 5! It is a genuine master piece of true film making gold. The found footage feature was almost as ground breaking as man discovering fire; it created a whole new sub-genre. No other horror film will replicate, in any way, the true terror that this film had me feel.
