Vertigo (1958)

In the beginning of the film we learn that the main character “Scottie” has vertigo as he fails to save the life of a fellow police officer due to his aversion of heights, I thought this would be the focus of the film but instead it seemed to only focus on his “vertigo” at three points during the film, at the beginning and twice near the end. Instead the story focused on Scottie who is a retired detective, and his romantic obsession with a married woman, who we later learn to be an imposter who impersonates the man whom Scottie is working for (as a private detective) in a murder plot again his own wife. I found the cinematography of the film to be intriguing, in one sequence Scottie is bathed in red, purple and green light, this contrasting of colours accurately displays his paranoia after seeing his love fall to her death. I found the concept of the film to be interesting but it was slow moving and the complex plot was hard to follow.
