Hotel Transylvania (2012)

Hello guys, Alex here, and today my review is for Hotel Transylvania. Now I have a new scheme of reviewing films. I will do a list of all the positives and negatives and summarise it all and give it a score at the end. But anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Right, facts first.

1. Hotel Transylvania was released in 2012.

2. It was directed by Genndy Tartakovsky.

3. It stars Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez and all the others listed.

Right, we're gonna delve straight in with the negative points about the film.

- The length

I think that this film could have easily been finished in about sixty-five to seventy minutes. But because it lasted just over ninety minutes, it did seem to start dragging towards the end.

- The pacing

The pacing for this film was very inconsistent. It seemed to drag one scene, and then be really quick in others. Yeah, the pacing was all a bit mumbo-jumbo.

- Dracula

Dracula was AWFUL in this film. The acting was over-the-top and panto-esque.

Now onto the positives.

- The humour

This film was entertaining in the comedy side of things. There were a few mild giggles and things like that. One standout joke was without a doubt the skeleton in the shower scene. That scene had me hysterical.

- The plot

The storyline was surprisingly good. Not brilliant, but good by my standards. The lovey-dovey relationship between the boy and Mavis was a bit forgettable, but the fact that the human kid practically taking over the place was fun to watch.

- The characters (apart from Dracula, the idiot)

The characters were very well-written and weren't overpowered or underpowered. Their development is also notable for being very well-structured.

Right, I'm gonna summarise now. Overall, I thought Hotel Transylvania was an average film, with some good points and bad points. Dracula was forgettable, the pacing was a bit messy, and the length of the film could have easily been reduced by about twenty minutes. But the plot was quite good, the characters were alright, and the jokes were very funny. Overall, I'd round off my review for Hotel Transylvania by giving it a respectable and fair 6/10.
