Byzantium (2012)

Summary Residents of a coastal town learn, with deathly consequences, the secret shared by the two mysterious women who have sought shelter at a local resort. The Story The story for Byzantium is a rather long and confusing one. It is hard to follow. Although this is true, I highly recommend that you pay attention because if you get it, you will love it. Luckily, I was paying attention and I can say that this film is extremely unique. If you are tired of the same cookie cutter story you have seen so very often, this is your film. The plot constantly thickens like blood congealing. The Actors Saoirse Ronan and Gemma Arteton play the roles of the two main characters, Eleanor and Clara. These two have amazing chemistry between them. Throughout the movie you are learning about their past and relationship. You will come up with theories and be proven wrong several times throughout. Their personalities are so different so when they clash its very entertaining. Technical Aspects This film spends a lot of time up close to the characters. This is because a lot of this film is spent in conversation. Other than to establish locations, there is nearly no extremely long or long shots. I prefer this as you can get immersed easier as you can feel like you are a member of the character’s conversations. Overall Review Watch this by yourself, or with very quiet people. You will need and want to pay attention to this tale of mortality and immortality. It is a breath of fresh air in a world of many re-hashed stories. A must watch for its pure uniqueness.
