As a great fan of history, I was excited to see that someone had finally made a film about the Burma railway that was both filmed with modern technology and not Bridge On The River Kwai. I'm not saying anything bad about Bridge Over The River Kwai, but it is decades old so it is nice to see a more recent film on practically the same subject. The Railway Man is a brilliant film, which perfectly captures the complex phsycological aftermath of something as traumatising as the building of the Burma railway, aswell as the mental effects left by the savage cruelty inflicted by the Japanese on their POWs. To capture these, as well as including well-made 'flashbacks', this film has done justice to those that died, or were permanently damaged, in the horrific process that was the building of the Burma railway.
