The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012)

Based on the best-selling novel by Stephen Chbosky, the 2012 coming-of-age drama, 'The Perks of being a Wallflower', is a brilliant representation of the struggles teenage life comes with. The film somehow manages to keep a warm and touching tone throughout, even when exploring the important issues of mental illness. It allows the audience to produce their own personal insight on mental illness and the devastating effects it can so often cause, by including the topic of mental illness the film, in my opinion, just becomes all the more exquisite. It gives people to opportunity to realise that mental illness should not be a taboo subject in society, but rather that it should be accepted and embraced. The film radiates happiness and gives hope to those suffering from a mental disorder that they can overcome their problems and find clarity with the help of their loved ones- shown mainly through the wonderfully portrayed characters: Charlie, Sam and Patrick.

Even if you're not usually into romantic-dramas, I would still urge you to watch this film. Possibly with a tissue handy.
