Planes Trains and Automobiles is a road comedy released in 1987 by John Hughes (Home Alone and Breakfast Club) Staring Steve Marin and John Candy. Wanting to get home to see his family for thanksgiving Neil (Steve Martin) takes a plane home. However when the flight is cancelled due to snow he recives help from traveling salesman named Del (John Candy) who's lad back attitude conflicts with Neil's stright faced persona. This film is one of the funniest films ever made with the best preformance in John Candy's sadly short career. He brings a level of humanty to a character that otherwise would be an annoning comedic relief and shows later on a suprising amount of hidden depths which makes the audience understand why he has such a personality. Steve Martin's character also desreves some mention as in this film he is an ordinary professional human who is stuck with someone who conflicts with his personality. In most other films this character would be a wet blanket protagionist but here he is also belivable in the role and later in the movie he also show another side to his personality caused by the stress of the situation. In conculsion if you want a fun and hartwarming film for you, your family and your friends then i strongly suggest this movie. It is genually one of the best holiday films ever made, just remember to cover your young family members ears during that one segment.
