I think there should be a Bar Mitzvah in the movie world, for some films just shouldn't be watched until the right time. If I had seen this film when I was a wee lad I would of been shocked at the drug use, sensual references and apathy expressed. But having become a teenager, after watching this I felt touched in a way that film doesn't normally. Despite the script being written by a man respectfully in his forties, the film fully captures what it's like to be a youth, free of stereotypes that adults attempt to push us into, whether positive or not. The film is about a college graduate (Jesse Eisenberg) who seems shy and introvert who has to take a job at a run down amusement park. There he creates new friends and begins a life of infatuation towards Emily (Kristen Stewart) and the casual lifestyle experianced by young people during the summer. The story may seem a little simple or already done, maybe it has been, but it manages to create individuality by simply being good. Adventureland isn't trying to convey a point as such, just tell a story, which at the end of the day, is what film should be doing. Granted some people wont like this film, finding fault in the casual use of cannabis, drinking, swearing and the need to consummate relationships but for the teenager who is frustrated at the idealistic view of youth in today's films, this is definitely worth a watch.
