Probably the greatest achievement of the film North Country, and there are many, is that in adapting a phenomenally powerful message, its creative team have produced something that works as an extremely thought-provoking film. In my opinion one of the most powerful and hard hitting moments in the film was in the very conclusion of the story in the final scene, set in the courtroom. Seeing the struggle Josie goes through to then seeing her determination pay off when the rest of the women stand up for what they believe in, and then finally winning the battle, is one of the most uplifting, fulfilling and inspiring moments. There are numerous moments were the film is so hard hitting its makes you almost want to look away, but the way the director Niki Caro uses this to minipulate exactly what the audience feel is truly ingenious. A film that can only be described as outstanding.
