The Green Lantern is a superhero film based on DC's comic books. It features actors such as Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively. I've never read DC's comics, but I expected a good story and character from the creators of the likes of Superman and Batman. While i'm sure the comic books are excellent, the movie adaptation simply falls flat in many different areas.
First of all, I should mention the few good things about this film. It has impressive special effects (if you don't look too closely) and pretty good acting. If you like pointless action and nothing else, then this is the film for you.
However, it is impossible to ignore the areas where this film fails to impress - Most prominent is the obvious plot holes. What happened to the US Air Force being in danger? Doesn't he at least get his hand smacked for destroying a billion dollar piece of equipment? A moon-sized, all powerful, soul-eating monster can be outsmarted that easily? Really? These flaws along with the over-use of CGI (They were probably better off with doctor-who style masks), a horrendous romance that seemed like it was thrown in at the last minute and a needlessly over-complicated storyline, make a film that tried to live up to it's comic book legacy, but failed in so many different ways and didn't live up to it's hype. This is truly a film for 9 years olds who like to watch aliens punch aliens, and not a film with a half-decent story to cater for hardcore fans or even regular moviewatcher.
