This is a film about a treasure hunter, Benjamin Gates (Nicholas Cage) and his friend, Riley Poole (Justin Bartha), ex-girlfriend, Abigail Chase (Diane Kruger) , father, Patrick Gates (Jon Voight) and mother, Emily Appleton (Helen Mirren). They go on a quest to clear the name of Ben's ancestor, who's name was on a page of a burnt diary, meaning people thought that he was a conspirator with the south during the time of President Licoln's death. A lot of this was stereoyped; clever people wore glasses, female's wore dresses and skirts, etc. and the evil guy was bald. When it showed the bad guy he was always hidden; lurking in the shadows, in a gloomy environment. It could be called pathetic fallacy but some of it was a little too stereotypical for me to call it pathetic fallacy. It had a good use of music that added to the drama; playing clashing chords when something is dangerous, swift and changing in an action part and soy hand gentle in the romantic parts. It used drumming to represent heart beats. The costumes were well suited to the scenes and 'scenarios'. When the mother was put in a difficult situation her clothes were clashing as if she was fighting 2 sides of herself. Overalll I think it was a very amusing action/adventure film for families to share. At the end the bad guy turns good which shows a moral of being selfless. He died which I think ruined the point of him changing but did add drama.I would rate it 8 out of 10 because, although I do like the occasional adventure film I thought that it was too stereo typical fro a story line!
