A clever and curious film powered not by witty dialogue or even perhaps epic animation but a simple story which itself is fuelled by the idea of illusion and the wonders and enjoyment that it can bring to a person. Slyvain Chomet wont be giving Pixar a run for their money anytime soon, but the film is sweet and plays tremendously upon the audiences heart and emotion through clever intertwing of quiet but majestic music and effective silence. Not everyone will enjoy this, and certainly some may find themselves confused a little ( attention must be focused at almost every second). Yet perhaps Chomets work is not purely designed to entertain. Perhaps the more prominent essence of the film is the potent message of growing beyond the fairy tale world of childhood, something we all must learn, and Chomet delivers this in a sophisticated, subtle and simply pleasant way. Definitely a one to watch even if you may not enjoy.
