The original karate kid is one of my favorite films of all time so i came to filmclub with high hopes, yet, i was thouroughly disapointed. first of all, its called the karate kid yet there is no karate, only kung-fu which are different. also, it felt glamorised and too staged, jaden smith is NOT in any way, shape or form, Daniel Laruso (the original Karate kid) i thought he was too young and defenceless, in the original, the main character was 17 and could sort out his own problems, jaden smith was, in my opinion, a bit wooden in his acting. the fight scenes took my breath away yet in the original, you could do the moves with enough practice but in this new movie jaden was doing 720 flips and using mind control, its a film but i thought that was a bit out of hand. Jackie chan was good in his role of Mr Han yet i didn't think he had the chemistry with jaden that Danial had with Mr Miagi. I think this film, was made to keep the 'Smith clan' piggy bank filling. overall enjoyable but no way near as good and uplifting as the original. for a better karate film try the original or Shaolin soccer! :-)
