Synopsis

The first Star Wars movie to be made - although now regarded as the fourth installment of George Lucas's epic sci-fi fantasy series - is one of the most popular and enduring movies of all time. Young Luke Skywalker sets out to follow his destiny as a rebel fighter, and with the help of robots R2-D2 and C-3PO, pilot Han Solo and Wookiee Chewbacca, attempts to rescue rebel leader Princess Leia from the clutches of the evil Empire. The two things standing in their way? The Death Star - a giant battleship - and one of cinema's greatest villains of all-time: Darth Vader. A major entry into cinema history and science-fiction as a whole, this film plays a pivotal role in film history whilst also being a wildly entertaining space opera.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
