Synopsis

Holly Martins, an American crime author, travels to Vienna just after World War II after being offered a job by one of his closest friends, the entrepreneur Harry Lime. Upon his arrival, however, he discovers that Harry was killed in a car accident mere days before. As Holly delves deeper into the accident, he begins to uncover a criminal underworld behind the city's elegant exterior along with some truths about Harry that shock him to the core. This film, often considered one of the greatest British films of all time, is both a morality tale and a engrossing post-war thriller.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."
