Synopsis

What kind of man volunteers to be strapped into an untested and virtually uncontrollable rocket-powered plane and be sent hurtling through the air? Find out in this epic but surprisingly funny drama about the early days of America's space programme, and the hard-drinking, slow-talking pilots who broke the speed of sound and then became some of the first men to venture forth from earth into the unknown.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
