Owen is a lonely youngster searching for meaning and wonder in his life who meets the older, reserved outcast Maddy at school. Despite their initial differences, the two soon begin to bond over a young adult television show called ‘The Pink Opaque’, about two girls who must battle evil forces using their psychic powers. As their complex relationship evolves, the show becomes a driving force in each of their lives and soon reality and fiction begin to blur. When ‘The Pink Opaque’ gets cancelled, Maddy also disappears, leaving Owen confused and more alienated than before. Years go by when, suddenly, Maddy reappears…This horror-tinged exploration of nostalgia and utilises a hugely unique, atmospheric style to also explore gender identity and the importance of self-acceptance.
