Synopsis

British filmmaker Jeanie Finlay profiles the American blogger and activist Aubrey Gordon who garnered thousands of followers through her blogs which detailed her many experiences related to fatness. As a self-described fat person Aubrey talks about the prejudice she’s experienced on aeroplanes, reveals how she’s been lectured during medical appointments, and has struggled to find suitable clothes even in stores supposedly aimed at fat people. Encompassing everything from Aubrey’s evolving relationship with her parents to the messages she receives from anonymous accounts online – some abusive, others hopeful – the documentary also tracks Aubrey’s journey to reveal her identity as she prepares to publish her first book. ‘Your Fat Friend’ is a rousing and empathetic film which encourages self-acceptance and allyship around the topic of body image.

What our educators say

"We are currently screening The Wizard of Oz, profound film that it is, and the last film Wall-E. It's been rewarding observing the KS1 6 year olds run the gamut of emotions from wonder to sadness to joy. "
