Synopsis

In this apocalyptic tragi-comic satire with a star-studded cast, an astronomy doctorate student named Kate makes the exciting discovery of a new comet. That excitement turns quickly into horror as she and her professor, Dr. Randall Mindy, calculate that the asteroid is hurtling directly towards planet Earth and is guaranteed to wipe out humanity. They rush to inform the President of the United States and news outlets of this imminent danger. Yet, incredibly, no-one is willing to take them seriously. Instead, people with power and influence try and politicize the discovery for their own selfish ends. Kate and Dr. Randall grow increasingly hysterical, while society’s insistence on burying its head in the sand snowballs into an all-out ridiculous farce. A razor-sharp comedy that will generate much debate about political and media responses to major issues such as the climate emergency and humanitarian crises.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
