Synopsis

A part of growing up is learning about money. This short film opens with a young New Zealand girl counting the coins in her purse, hoping to buy some sweets. As she enters a shop to carry out her purchase, an elderly man tries to buy some bread and milk, but his card is declined. The film explores the relative value of goods, offering young audiences an insightful perspective on affordability, the cost of living and the difference between want and need. As the young girl discovers, a small gesture can also be an important lesson in compassion and can help us connect with our community.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
