At a residential care center in Geneva, a group of at-risk teenage girls and their care workers share an intimate space that they call home. Seven of their stories are told in an unfolding chapter format, portraying what life is like for the under-served and undervalued members of society whilst showcasing their divergent paths in life. Friendships are developed and broken as the girls attempt to discover their purpose whilst tensions rise until they reach breaking point. Directed with a great sense of authenticity by a former care worker collaborating with a largely non-professional cast of actors, ‘La Mif’ is an insightful and powerful look at the ramifications of abuse whilst highlighting the importance and difficulty of social work.
very strong language, sexual violence, domestic abuse
