In the Zaatari Refugee Camp in Jordan, Mahmoud and Fawzi are best friends. Though they face an uncertain future and hostile everyday conditions, they focus their time and energy on their one true passion: football. Despite the harsh realities of the camp, they practice every day, believing that they have the abilities to become professional footballers. When Aspire Academy – one of the world’s leading sports academies – arrive to pick players for an international tournament in Doha, Mahmoud and Fawzi have the opportunity of a lifetime to display their abilities and represent refugees on the world stage. ‘Captains of Zaatari’ is a timely documentary which presents refugees with empathy and compassion, highlighting the humanity behind the ongoing global crisis.
