This French animated fable begins with an elderly and majestic monkey, Prince Laurent, being washed ashore and rescued by 12-year-old Tom. Taking him to his parents, who have been ousted from their modern community for their theory that other monkey civilizations must exist, they give Prince Laurent shelter and a place to recover. Hoping that this will be their chance to prove their case, Tom’s parents are unaware that Prince Laurent is just as intellectual as them. It is the young Tom’s curiosity and kindness that makes him connect with the Prince and together they explore the highly advanced city. Created by renowned director Jean-François Languionie, this is a breathtakingly beautiful animation that movingly explores intergenerational friendships and what binds or divides a society.
