Synopsis

Based on the stage musical of the same name from renowned writer and performer Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton), In the Heights tells the story of a neighbourhood in New York City, Washington Heights, known for its strong ties to the Latin-American community. Amongst the many characters in Washington Heights is Usnavi, a bodega owner who harbours ambitions of opening up a business back in the Dominican Republic; Vanessa, his love interest, who is determined to break her way into the fashion industry; and Nina, a popular Puerto Rican girl who is struggling to tell her parents that she quit college months ago. With everyone in Washington Heights striving to achieve their dreams, the intense emotions of the neighbourhood begin to overflow Energetic and packed with memorable, visually stunning musical sequences, In the Heights interrogates what it means to be part of a community and shines a light on the Latin American experience.

What our educators say

"We are currently screening The Wizard of Oz, profound film that it is, and the last film Wall-E. It's been rewarding observing the KS1 6 year olds run the gamut of emotions from wonder to sadness to joy. "
