Synopsis

Set in a Sheffield high school, this short film tells the story of Mae, a quiet student being bullied by her classmates. Retreating into her own world, she stops talking to her parents and those around her, and seeks solace in her love for horses, even wearing a horse mask at dinner. As her school show-and-tell approaches, Mae bravely decides to confront the bullies with the help of a real horse. Inspired by the director’s personal experiences of growing up, this is a thoughtful exploration of the effects of bullying, and an empowering message about standing up to it on your own terms.

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
