Elle Reid is a grandparent who has recently broken up with her much younger lesbian lover, Olivia, and is also attempting to cope with the death of her long-term partner. Her granddaughter Sage unexpectedly arrives at her door with the news that she’s pregnant and needs $600 for an abortion later that day. This leads the two of them on a sudden journey into Elle’s past, visiting friends and old flames in an attempt to raise the cash somehow. The film is riotously funny throughout – with many witty one-liners coming from a brilliant Lily Tomlin – but also has serious undertones concerning relationships, responsibility and gender in this female-fronted comedy drama.
