In 1950s New York, Carol is a wealthy, middle-aged married woman who has a chance meeting with Therese, a shy and curious department store worker. There’s an instant attraction between the two women and their romantic friendship quickly develops into something more serious. However, Carol’s husband refuses to let go of her without a fight – resulting in a messy custody hearing during their divorce – leaving the lovers to wonder whether there’s a future to be had. Featuring two stunning central performances, this is a stylish, seductive and gorgeously shot film from acclaimed filmmaker Todd Haynes, adapted from the Patricia Highsmith novel.
