There's been a number of film adaptations of Emily Bronte's intense Romantic novel about the passionate, obsessive relationship between farmer’s daughter Cathy and Heathcliff, the homeless, moody boy her family has taken in, on Yorkshire's wind-battered moors. But none are like this boldly original, visually stunning take from Brit director Andrea Arnold. Forget the polite decorum and prissy dresses you might associate with period dramas - this brings to life the spit, blood and brutal intensity of the book (beware the unsettling animal cruelty scenes!)
This film contains strong language, once very strong, racist terms and animal killings.
