Synopsis

Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle proves his genre-hopping skills once again with this visually astonishing sci-fi thriller. Referencing such cosmic classics as 2001: A Space Odyssey, the tense and philosophical tale unfolds in 2057 with the crew of the spaceship Icarus II sent on a desperate journey to save mankind. Their mission is to re-ignite the dying sun with a massive nuclear bomb - a goal that the astronauts of the original Icarus were mysteriously unable to achieve. But as the ship gets closer to its fiery destination, things start to go catastrophically wrong, leading to strange and disturbing consequences. The overall result is a gripping example of brains and style, enriched by strong performances, believable science and jaw-dropping special effects.

What our educators say

"We are currently screening The Wizard of Oz, profound film that it is, and the last film Wall-E. It's been rewarding observing the KS1 6 year olds run the gamut of emotions from wonder to sadness to joy. "
