Synopsis

Gift shop assistant Alfred detests the newly hired Klara, and she feels exactly the same way about him. So when the professional rivals are ordered to work together, they bicker continuously, leaving Alfred wondering why all women can't be like the sweet female pen-pal he's fallen for, though never met. What neither realises is that this anonymous cutie and Klara are actually the same person - until a shocked Alfred makes the connection. Keeping the knowledge secret, he tries to get Klara to fancy him in the flesh, while colleagues around him tackle their own complicated lives. Vibrant and smart, with great performances and dialogue, this black-and-white rom-com is one of old Hollywood's most charming.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
