Synopsis

Based on Oscar Wilde's play, Lady Windermere's Fan, this film has an intricate plot involving Mrs Erlynne, an American socialite who is snubbed by New York high society following some of her 'evil' deeds. Boarding a liner to the Italian coast she soon gets in with a young couple the Windermeres - although it is the wealthy Lord Windermere who really catches her eye. Gossip springs up around their intimate friendship, although there's another story unfolding between the young and naive Mrs Windermere and the dashing Lord Darlington, who's fallen for the supposedly-spurned young wife. The stylish sets and Italian locations all add to the sense of 1930s glamour.

What our educators say

"We are currently screening The Wizard of Oz, profound film that it is, and the last film Wall-E. It's been rewarding observing the KS1 6 year olds run the gamut of emotions from wonder to sadness to joy. "
