This often rather camp period piece was once deemed so threatening to the morals of Britain's youth that it was banned. What remains of interest is Marlon Brando's magnetic performance, some choice dialogue and underneath all the posturing an unexpectedly thoughtful look at the tension between rebellious youth and staid conformity, and how the desire to defend either stance can slip easily into violence.
