An ingenious gang, led by a villain known only as Mr Blue, hijacks a New York subway train and demands a ransom or they'll start killing the passengers. The only obstacle lying in the way of the bad guys is Lt Garber of the transit police, and while he may look and act like a world-weary slob, Garber is every bit as smart and resourceful as the crooks in this consistently inventive thriller.
