Synopsis

Martin Cahill was the most famous professional criminal in Ireland in the 1980s and 1990s, known as the General for the military-like control he had over his followers and for his careful planning. This beautifully shot black and white caper film follows his life and crimes, capturing his legendary charm and capacity for violence. He stays one step ahead of the police, but can he also stay ahead of the IRA? Excellent performances lead by Brendan Gleeson and Jon Voight as robber and cop in a tragic cat-and-mouse chase.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
