Around 1.7% of all people are born with intersex traits and these can manifest in many ways, creating a complex and misunderstood portrait of what the term actually means. This thoughtful and groundbreaking documentary examines how it feels to be intersex in the 21st century through the stories of three very different people who have all overcome shame, secrecy and unauthorised medical procedures to become successful and joyful adults who, nevertheless, still campaign for intersex voices to be heard. A science-first documentary that nevertheless takes personal stories of emotion and hardship into account to build an honest portrayal of a little-discussed identity.
