Every winter, monarch butterflies in North America migrate south to the warmer climate of Mexico. But one young butterfly called Patrick is told that he can't travel with the rest of his group: one of his wings is a lot smaller than the other, meaning he can't fly. The journey is a dangerous one for any butterfly after all with predators such as a one-eyed eagle ready to pounce on the fluttering little insects. Determined, Patrick hides among the food supplies with his caterpillar friend Marty. Stormy weather derails their journey, but with the support of Jennifer, a butterfly who is afraid of heights, Patrick learns to believe in himself and becomes an unexpected hero. This heart-warming tale gently explores themes surrounding disability and inclusion, as well as featuring breath-taking scenery and interesting facts about the natural world.
