Synopsis

On a remote island somewhere in the stormy Scottish Isles, Omar, a Syrian refugee, is awaiting to hear from the British government to see if he will be allowed to move forward and live in the United Kingdom. As the days drag on, Omar and the other refugees, including a Queen-obsessed man from Afghanistan and two quarreling brothers, begin to form bonds over their shared plight whilst also trying to persevere through the ridiculous cultural lessons provided by the local immigration center. Desperate to find ways to helps his family whilst also trying to reignite his passion for his prized possession, a traditional Arabic instrument called the oud’, Omar must navigate this new world and hope that he will find his way home, wherever that may be. Told with gentle humour, this is an accessible and entertaining story that still highlights the struggle and poignancy that that often follows immigrants as they make their journeys to safety.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."
